It is difficult to find time to write. We all know that. Some of us get up early in the morning, others of us carve time out during the day (whether it's when the kids are in school or napping or the time when most people eat lunch), while some write after everyone else has gone to sleep. However, given the non-stop nature of our days, even during those times, we are often interrupted while trying to write. Whether it's an email or text message that pulls us away from that short story or a Facebook notification that distracts us from a poem, there is much in today's world to interrupt us.
Researchers at George Mason University performed an experiment to try to show that interruptions lower the quality of writing. They found that, not only is that hypothesis confirmed, but people who were interrupted while writing also produced a lower quantity of writing. I knew there was a reason I keep all my programs closed on my program when writing, and I'm thankful I don't have a cell phone to bother me.
